Late yesterday the Costa Rica government issued new driving restrictions to begin Saturday nationwide.

Cases of Covid-19 are on the rise over the past few days, and the government believes that preventing people from driving from 5am-11pm on the weekends will reduce the spread.

Beginning tomorrow on those whose licence plates end in even numbers can drive. Then on Sunday only those who have a licence plate ending in Odd numbers can drive. This is in addition to the nightime restrictions already in place from 11pmto 5am daily.

The new restrictions are currently for an indefinite period, however it is possible they may be rescinded if and when the case numbers start to decline substantially.

Those caught ignoring the restrictions could face a fine of 110,000 colones.
