One of the topics addressed Tuesday during the weekly Governing Council meeting, Gustavo Segura, Minister of Tourism, informed the Government Council on Tuesday that the board of directors of the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) approved the signing of an agreement with the National Institute of Women (INAMU) to promote gender equality in the industry, tourism, the prevention of violence against women and the construction of safe tourist environments for women who travel alone.

While many may have not have know this was an issue, the ICT has made it clear to the world that this is an issue they have made a priority.

The set of initiatives will make it possible to strengthen the vision of ICT as an institution committed to women's human rights and to promoting an organizational culture of equality between men and women.

In addition, good practices will be implemented in the tourism sector that guarantee services in safe environments free of violence for tourists, promote the access and permanence of women in work spaces under conditions of equality and non-discrimination based on gender.

In this way, it is intended to protect women and improve the quality of the services offered and the competitiveness of Costa Rica as a destination.
